Maligawila buddha Statue


Maligawila Buddha Statue is located in Maligawila Village in the Moneragala District of Sri Lanka . The Maligawila Buddha Statue is considered to be the largest unattached (completely detached) stone Buddha statue among the oldest Buddha statues in Sri Lanka.

The height of the Buddha statue is 42 feet with the Padma Peetha which is about 4 feet. This is made of crystalline limestone. It is carved with the Abhaya seal like the Aukana Buddha statue. The Maligawila Buddha statue is considered to be the largest stone Buddha statue among the oldest Buddha statues in Sri Lanka. The statue was preserved by the Department of Archeology and the State Engineering Corporation in 1991.

It is the duty of all of us to preserve this precious creation of sri lanka.
